26th Critics Choice Awards
I love award season! I love to see Zendaya win anything and the red carpet fashions always leave me inspired, in awe or in ehh. The 26th Critics Choice Awards brought our favorite actors and actresses to the red carpet in their backyards for an at-home designer serve. Here are my favorite looks from the night:
Zendaya
Zendaya stunned in Maison Valentino! Her height and small frame allows her queenly aura to shine through in ball gowns. I love that the bright orange skirt compliments her skin undertones and her hair pays homage to the late Cicely Tyson.
John Boyega
Louis Vuitton is one on my top 2 favorite designer brands. The designs are always so innovative and reflect the wearer so well. I love the combination of the Louis Vuitton symbols and African Kente cloth. I do wish there was some color in the cloth since traditional Kente is vibrant. The monochromatic looks militant, which is the look the stylist was going for.
Regina King
When doesn't Miss King kill? This Versace dress is a stunner! I'm a sucker for sequins and the deep navy compliments her brown skin beautifully. The pleated, criss cross bustier and ruffled shoulders create shape and draw your eyes to her face. The thigh slit is the perfect balance of fabric to skin ratio.
Amanda Seyfriend
Mama Mia! I love a woman in a "tuxedo" with a red lip. The Miu Miu sheer bodice and sleeves keep is sexy and the rhinestone add feminine glamour. I'm glad the hairstylist opted for finger waves instead of shoulder sweeping her wavy locks. The shoes are safe. I would've chosen a black 'So Kate' Louboutin.
Algee Smith
I love a man in pink. This Versace suit is fabulously casual. The trousers look like wide leg jeans and the pink wife beater compliments the air forces. The jacket elevates this look from streetwear to event-ready with the cut and added rhinestone starfish. Maybe there was some playfulness in this styling since his name is Algee, like algae?
H.E.R
Miu Miu did H.E.R right! I wouldn't change a thing in this look. Everything is so cohesive from the rhinestone heels to the green eyeshadow. I love the pastel colors and the beaded floral print that subtly catch the light. H.E.R's natural curls being pulled up were the perfect way to show off her neck instead of it being swallowed by her usually long, full locks.
Emma Corrin
This dress by Schiaparelli is so weird and it works. The matching earrings literally bring the dresses design full circle optically. The "unkept"styled hair and barely-there smokey eye make this mini dress so sexy and sultry. The smallest details, like sheer stockings and a patent leather pointy toe made this look top tier. This is a look I'd expect to see in 1990s Vogue.
Maria Bakalova
Prada is top 2 and she ain't number 2. Maria looks a modernized renaissance lady. The V-neck is just enough sexy to stay within class, but not that innocent. The perfectly placed rhinestone headband keeps your eye from going straight to the rhinestone bow. Your eye naturally goes head to toe. Stud earrings were definitely the right choice because a dangle would've been too much.
Dominique Fishback
Reem Acra designed an angelic gown. You can see the lightness of the fabric throughout and the sheer skirt make Dominique's legs appear longer. The "off-shoulder" sleeves keep the dress from looking boxy because the fabric goes out for the arms and comes back in around the waist. I love the added jewels to her natural up-do and the perfect nude lip to match colors.
Kaley Cuoco
It's giving Dolce & Gabbana matador. I like it. Kaley Cuoco always looks amazing in the unexpected. Babygirl wore a lace jumpsuit to her wedding! The embellished crop blazer, vest and dress shirt are giving avant grade luxury and the choice to go plain, wide leg trousers keep her from really looking like a matador. The shoes are perfect by being sheer with just enough rhinestone.
Daisy Edgar-Jones
I think Oscar de la Renta is my favorite dress maker. This dress is gorgeous, but not on Miss Daisy. Unfortunately, this dress upstaged her. The non-existent jewelry and ponytail do not fit the grandeur that this dress can give. Daisy has a beautifully, long neck and she needed a small lariat necklace paired with a matching bracelet. Natural makeup is fine for this look, but a glossed lip and highlighter could've elevated it. It's really the ponytail that's the disappointment. Sweep her hair up into a loose up-do with wavy tendrils hanging, like Cardi B at the 2018 Grammys.
