Protection

There are many things that make me sad, but few that break my heart. This was the latter.

I truly never thought a time would come when Meghan Markle would share her experience. I was excited that Prince Harry chose a Black woman as his forever, but I held my breath to how the world would react. People always show their true colors.

Meghan has had her name dragged through the mud and still managed to show kindness and grace in the spotlight. I figured she wasn’t okay because who would be after all that negativity. To hear that she wanted to end her life is so gut-wrenching.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Oprah interview

Protection is a continuous word throughout the interview. Again, the world sees that the Black woman is the most unprotected group among people. Meghan regrets being naïve to the royal institution’s promised protection and too often Black women realize too late that that protection doesn’t extend to them. We as Black women have to be so strong and the protectors of everyone else, but when we find the courage to ask for help, we are denied. I applaud those who found the courage to escape boundaries because you matter and how you feel matters.

This whole ordeal also stresses the importance of finding a partner that truly cares about every aspect of you. Harry could've easily told Meghan to push through and keep quiet, but the man literally left behind everything he has ever known for her safety. This is an example of what we mean when we say Protect Black Women.
