The Grammy Goes To...

The Grammys can sometimes be synonymous with the words 'rigged' and 'racist'. Many of the public's favorite artists are often left out of nominations and go un-awarded. This year's Grammys wasn't that different, except my hometown pride had another chance to grow. Lizzo brought it home at last year's Grammys and this year was about the original H-Town Hottie, Megan Thee Stallion!

Megan truly worked her a** off and deserved 'Best New Artist', 'Best Rap Performance' and 'Best Rap Song' featuring Beyoncé. I remember listening to her at Prairie View A&M University and to see her now take home three Grammys is so inspiring. Megan has had a hard year suddenly losing her mother and grandmother and I'm so so happy to see her smiling, winning anything. Real hot girl shit!

Houston girls were winning big last night because Miss Blue Ivy Carter became the second youngest person, at 9 years old, to win a Grammy. Miss Blue won 'Best Music Video' for helping write the melanin anthem 'Brown Skin Girl'. The picture above is literally the joy of a mother when Beyoncé congratulated her baby girl. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree because Beyoncé made history too being the most awarded female Grammy winner of all time with 28 wins! Aside from the wins, looks at those Schiaparelli earrings! Absolutely heavy-looking and fabulous, truly fit for the Queen.

Another scream-worthy moment was Tiffany Haddish receiving news she won a Grammy for 'Best Comedy Album'. Whoppi Goldberg was the first and last Black woman to win this award since 1985. It's another "get-it-out-the-mud" story and the ending is a triumphant victory for a Black queen. Tiffany was filming 'Kids Say the Darndest Things' when a producer shared the news with her. She used her joyous moment to teach and inspire the little Black girls around her. (Click here to watch Tiffany's reaction.)

I will always scream from the rooftops the words of Issa Rae, "I'm rooting for everybody Black!" There's always the takeaway of inspiration and motivation when I see Black women win because it truly is when one wins, we all win.
