Winner's Circle
I'm so proud of the history that was made this week! I feel so motivated to stay on my grind and excited to share my opinion so let's dig in.
The biggest talk of the week is probably the U.S. Open. Serena Williams versus Naomi Osaka, a 20 year old Japanese - Haitian pro tennis player. The controversy is that Serena lost but some felt the loss was due to the referee's questionable calls. Serena was accused of receiving coaching (cheating) and she felt it was an attack on her character.
The US Open has been on Serena's ass since she has qualified to play. I think the referee had something against her and I see no issue with her reaction to the loss. She was not upset with Naomi at all but that the referee stole points from her that cost her the game and changed how people see her. So what she broke her racket and called the ref a thief. Like Serena said in her interview, she's seen others do and say way worse with no consequences.
All that being said, congratulations to Naomi Osaka! She's the first Japanese person to win a Grand Slam in the singles tournament. She's one of few to ever beat Serena! Naomi grew up watching and cheering for Serena so I'm sure she was supe emotional besting her.
It broke my heart to see her apologizing for a win she worked extremely hard for. Naomi, you deserved that win and everything good that comes with it! I can't wait to see what you're going to do next!
Now, I usually never watch the Miss America pageant. My family and I were scrolling through the channels and I saw Nia Franklin. I fell in love with her beautiful, chocolate skin and that we have the same last name lol. I was rooting for her from that moment.
I had no doubts that she would win. The competition was like a 6 and she was at a 10 the whole time! In the words of Rupaul, "you're a winner, baby!". Congrats!
Finally, we have the one and only legend, John Legend. John became the first
African-American man to become an E.G.O.T holder. Meaning, John has won at least one Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, & a Tony award! My mind is blown by how much talent this man posesses!
You go, Arthur!
